Christ the King Sunday
Dear Friends in Christ,
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to reflect on the many blessings we have to be grateful for this season. Faith, family, and good food are high on the list—but let’s not forget to give thanks for the best team in football, the 9-1 Detroit Lions! After so many years of being in the valley as a losing team, it is nice to have a glimpse of the mountaintop as the team is tied for the best record in Football!
I also want to invite you to join us for our Thanksgiving “Eve” Mass on Wednesday, November 27, at 6:30pm. This beautiful liturgy is a great way to gather as a parish community and give thanks to God for His abundant blessings in our lives. I hope to see you there!
Speaking of the Lions, let’s keep the gratitude going on Thursday, December 5, when the Lions take on the Packers. I will be at the game with my dad and brothers (don’t worry, I won’t jinx it), but some of our parishioners decided to make the evening a little more exciting with a “Pastor Is Gone” party! All are welcome to join in the fun, starting just before kickoff at 8pm. Bring a dish to pass, enjoy the company, and cheer on the Lions as they (hopefully) defeat the Packers. It’s sure to be a great night of laughter and fellowship! The “Pastor Is Gone” Detroit Lions gathering will be in Sarto Center, on Thursday, December 5, starting at 8pm.
Finally, I’d like to say a word about our second collections this season. Every fall, there are a few special second collections for important causes. So far, we’ve supported Mission Sunday and the Campaign for Human Development, and the final one of the year is coming up soon: the Retirement Fund for Religious. I know that having several collections in a short time can feel like a lot of asks, but I am so grateful for your generosity. Your support for these ministries makes a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Thank you for your kindness and willingness to contribute to these important efforts.
May this Thanksgiving season be filled with blessings for you and your loved ones. Let’s continue to give thanks for all the ways God has been so good to us.
In Christ’s Love and Friendship, Fr. Stephen
