18th Sunday in Ordinary Time

The weekend’s readings have me reflecting on the anxiety I carry and being rich by trusting in God. Frequently, I find myself overthinking and anxiety beginning to consume me. For this reason, the first reading has been a focus of my prayer this week.
“For what profit comes to man from all the toil and anxiety of heart with which he has labored under the sun? All his days sorrow and grief are his occupation; even at night his mind is not at rest.”
If I let my anxiety consume me, I will never find rest. I will only find rest by trusting in God and trusting that He has a plan for everything. This also couples with our Gospel which talks about those who are rich in earthly things and possessions and “not rich in what matters to God.”
Where are your priorities this week? Are you focused on control or on earthly things? Do you surrender and place your trust in God by turning to prayer? May we take notice of where we find ourselves this week and grow in the richness of God’s love and care for us.
