Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Tomorrow night, athletes from around the world will gather for the Opening Ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics. I have always loved watching the Olympics and seeing top athletes come together to compete. The world feels united under the ancient tradition of the games and under agreed-upon rules for each sport. These moments of unity are rare, but they are a glimpse of how we are meant to be.

St. Paul in the Second Reading calls for Christian unity. He urges the Ephesians to live united under one baptism and one faith under our one God (Eph 4:1-6). This is also a great reminder to us. Despite our country of origin, political beliefs, or any other perceived dividing factor, we all have dignity in God who is “over all and through all and in all” (Eph 4:6).

With the current political landscape of our country and our world, pray with me this week for unity and peace.
