There is hope.

In the Gospel today, Jesus speaks to us about the end times. We have all experienced days that were “supposed” to be the end of the world. There was even a day at the beginning of October this year that was predicted to be as such. Clearly, they were wrong (just as Jesus said they would be). Often these predictions of the end times are meant to induce fear and the person who ‘prophesied’ it gains some kind of profit as a result. But Jesus leaves us with a message of hope, not fear.

While there will be times of trial before the end of the world, the Lord makes it clear that as long as we stand with Him, we will receive eternal life. This has always been our goal as Christians. We are running towards eternal life with Christ. And while what Jesus teaches in this passage may seem daunting, it serves as an encouragement to us. He’s telling us of the reward we will receive as long as we stay faithful to Him. As long as we choose to stand up in His name, we will receive the reward of eternal life.

So have hope, brothers and sisters. Persevere in your trials and stay strong in your faith. Know that Jesus is right there encouraging you as you run the race towards heaven. And He will be right there cheering when you cross the finish line.
