Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

This weekend we will celebrate our patron saint, Saint Pius X. One thing I love about my job is learning about liturgy and the beautiful traditions of our church, but more importantly I love sharing that knowledge with others.

We discovered that we have many relics of St Pius X. This weekend at the conclusion of Mass we will offer veneration of those relics. This is a tradition that many may not know about. As a parish we have experienced veneration. This spring we offered veneration of the relics that were to be placed in our new altar during the Dedication. We venerate the cross on Good Friday. This tradition is common, and yet not frequently practiced, so I am thrilled that we will get to experience it as a parish family this weekend. As Catholics we pray to the saints in heaven to intercede for us in prayer. This is yet another way to do that. We honor them and seek their intercession.

This weekend, you will notice the relics on a table, just like at the Mass of Dedication of the Altar. At the conclusion of Mass, we will pray the Litany of Pope Saint Pius X (which parts will also sound familiar). We will then come forward to venerate/honor them how we would like.

I hope you find the beauty in this tradition this weekend and may St Pius X continue to intercede for our parish! Pope Saint Pius X…pray for us!
