Immaculate Conception & Christmas Mass
Dear Friends in Christ,
This year, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception will be celebrated on Monday, December 9, as it has been transferred from December 8 to avoid conflicting with the Second Sunday of Advent.
Even though the date has been moved, the obligation to attend Mass for the Immaculate Conception remains. Please note that to fulfill both obligations, you must attend one Mass for the Second Sunday of Advent and a separate Mass for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception.
- You can fulfill the Sunday obligation by attending any Mass on
Sunday, December 8. - To fulfill the Immaculate Conception obligation, you can attend a
Mass on Monday, December 9. - Alternatively, you may fulfill both obligations on Sunday, December 8, by attending a Sunday morning Mass for your Sunday obligation and then an evening Mass that anticipates the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception for the holy day obligation.
In summary, you need to attend two separate Masses—one for Sunday and one for the Immaculate Conception. Thank you for your understanding as we celebrate both these important days. We look
forward to celebrating this holy day with you! Masses at St. Pius X for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception will be held at 9:00am (no incense) and 7:00pm (incense) on Monday, December 9.
As we prepare for the Holidays, I wanted to let you know the Christmas Mass schedule for St. Pius X as there will be a slight change due to the renovation of our Sanctuary. Our Christmas Eve Masses will be celebrated at 4:30pm (incense), 7:30pm (incense), and 10:30pm (incense), and our Christmas Day Mass will be at 9:30am (no incense). For those who are able, I encourage you to consider attending either the 7:30pm or 10:30pm Mass on Christmas Eve, or to join us on Christmas morning. This will help us manage the crowd at the 4:30pm Mass, which we expect to be very full. Your cooperation in helping us ensure a comfortable experience for everyone is greatly appreciated! Additionally, as we journey through Advent, I invite you to prepare your hearts by receiving the Sacrament of Penance. Here are the confession times for Advent at St. Pius X:
- Saturdays: 4:00pm- 4:45pm
- Thursdays (December 12 & 19): 4-5:00pm
- Wednesday, December 18: 6-8:00pm
Penance Service with individual confession at Holy Redeemer Parish on December 5, starting at 6:30pm (several priests available). May this season of Advent be a time of renewal and peace for each of you as we draw closer to God and anticipate the joy of Christmas.
In Christ’s Love and Friendship,
