Youth Choir

Exciting news! The SPX Music Ministry is expanding to include our youth! A mixed-age youth choir will kick off this fall for kids 3rd – 12th grade.

High school students have the option of either playing a leadership role with this group or auditioning for our talented and quickly-moving Chamber Choir.

SPX Music Director Meghan Schaut will be joined by singer and music educator Jamie Purkovic in leading this group, and we can’t wait to get started! This is a great way for our youth to work together across age groups to be part of a beautiful and meaningful ministry to our parish. We look forward to building upon the leadership of our teens in growing this group. If you are interested in being a part of it, please sign up in the back of church, and attend the informational meeting after the 10:30am Mass on September 10.

High School Students interested in auditioning for Chamber Choir: email Meghan at mschaut@spxcatholic.org.

Chamber Choir

Auditions required; ages high school through adult. This group is made of talented musicians with strong vocal technique, who have had extensive choral experience. It includes many members who have studied music or theater in college. Strong note-reading and sight reading skills are required as we move quickly through new music. This group has the highest level of commitment and dedication. They sang in Carnegie Hall in 2018, have recorded, and presented several large-scale choral/orchestral Cantatas.

Attendance is required at weekly Wednesday rehearsals September through June, at all weekend choir Masses, Feast Days, Christmas Eve, all Masses of Holy Week, and Easter. They also sing for communal penance services and other special church events.

This group is focused and disciplined, with a variety of repertoire including classical choral works, contemporary cantatas, praise and worship music, all styles of weekend church music, a cappella, and more. Auditions are required as we have limited physical space in the choir area, and we want to make sure that voices coming in will work well with the current group. Contact Meghan for more information.

Resurrection Choir

This group sings for funerals, meeting for rehearsal 30 minutes before each one. No auditions are required, and while there is plenty of training in the group, it’s more relaxed and focused on the ministry of supporting our grieving families with our presence, prayers, and song. This group has grown a lot! People who are available in the mornings have enjoyed coming together and growing in community and friendship. Many choose to stay for the funeral luncheons to socialize. The group includes several retired choir members, as well as others who sing purely for the joy of serving in song. Contact Meghan to be on our email list.
