Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

This weekend we hear Jesus say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” This has resonated with me as I also heard it on a podcast I was listening to. I am not a scripture scholar, but I read and listen to people who have those credentials. I heard that another translation for the word repent is change. We all can examine our lives and desire change or experience change. I have never liked change, but the more I embrace it, I see that it happens every day. We have turning points daily where things change. Some are good, expected, desired, hopeful, and joyful. We have some changes that are sorrowful, unexpected, burdensome, or even leave us confused. Through change, Jesus is calling us, just as he did the disciples in our Gospel, follow me, I’ve picked you. Thinking about my changes and daily turning points through the lens that Jesus is calling me, makes things shift and sit differently than before. How can you shift your perspective to embrace that Jesus chooses you every day in all the turning points and changes to use your gifts and follow Him? He is in the change and should be our change, if only we will let Him in!
